Department of education in Australia confirms the extension of working rights post-study. From July 1, 2023, international students will be able to work for 48 hours.
From July 1, 2023, international students with the appropriate qualification will be granted a stay of extra two years. International students holding specific degrees will be granted two-year extensions post-work. This additional allowance of two years will give students a Temporary graduate visa. Currently, the Australian government allows international students to live, study, and work in the country.
As per the authorities, the new extension is in addition to one to two years of allowance already allotted to students. However, the new extension will come into effect from July 1, 2023. Thus, students holding degrees that are in demand have a higher chance of securing a place in Australia for the long term. The new extension will lead to an extension in post-study work rights from:
- Two years to four for a bachelor’s degree
- Three years to five for a master’s degree
- Four years to six for a doctoral program
This extension is likely to have a positive pull on the country. Even the students will be able to gain valuable financial stability and work experience. Meanwhile, the skill shortage will be met in Australia. Not only, the Australian government is planning to extend the stay of international students but the working hour cap will also be removed. As of now, international students are allowed to work for 40 hours while studying. Australian government reveals that international students will now be allowed to work for 48 hours per fortnight.
