Apply for jobs while on tourist or business visa in the US

An individual visiting the USA can apply for a job while on a tourist or business visa, as per the reports from US Citizenship and Immigration Services.

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently announced that people who come to the USA on a tourist or business visa can now apply for jobs. Even an individual is allowed to sit for an interview. Further, USCIS has clearly stated that even if someone has passed the interview, they cannot work on a tourist visa. USCIS revealed this information on Twitter on March 22, 2023. This decision came into effect after people visiting the US asked whether they were eligible to apply for a job in the country.

B-1 and B-2 visas are primarily issued and have multiple purposes in the United States.  The B-1 visa is for short-term business trips, whereas the B-2 visa is for tourism purposes.

Anyone who wishes to work in the USA has to switch their employment status from the B-1 or B-2 category to an employment-authorized status. The new employment status should be in effect before you start working for any company.

If the request to change status to authorized-employment status is denied, the individual must re-enter the country with a valid employment status.

Massive layoffs in the American technology sector are the reason for the approval of a job search on a tourist visa. Last month, two Indians signed an online petition to give H-1B visa holders an extra month of grace. Since there were many layoffs in the US, it was difficult to find a job within the 60-day period under the work visa. The H-1B visa is also a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to hire international workers with theoretical or technical expertise.
