The Australian government made a big announcement on July 26, 2023, that TOEFL will no longer be acceptable in the country. According to the official website of Australia’s Department of Home Affairs, “TOEFL iBT will no longer be offering English language tests for Australian visa purposes until further notice.”
Though previously the test was accepted as a Foreign Language score for visa purposes, However, for anyone who appeared for TOEFL iBT before July 25, 2023, their scores are to remain valid.
As per the latest information, the English Language Proficiency tests that are acceptable in Australia include:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS), including One Skill Retake (OSR)
- Pearson Test of English (PTE)
- Cambridge English (CAE), also known as C1 Advanced
- Occupational English Test (OET): This test is primarily developed for health experts.
For Australian visa purposes, IELTS test results that include OSR will be accepted, with the exception of applications for subclasses 476, 482, and 485, which require scores from a single attempt.
Not only this, candidates appearing for the IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) are limited to a few test takers. The official notification states that OSR is a mode that allows test takers to retake one of the four component skills tested in the IELTS test, including speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
