The Erasmus Mundus scholarship has been awarded to 146 Indian students for the two-year master’s programmes in Europe under Erasmus+ for the academic year 2024. This achievement makes India the top recipient of the scholarship this year. Of the 146 recipients, 75 are female and 71 are male, showcasing a balanced gender representation.
This year, a total of 2,603 students from 137 countries received the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree scholarship. These selected students will have the unique opportunity to study and conduct research at a minimum of two universities in different European countries, providing a diverse and enriching academic experience. The fully funded scholarship covers all major expenses, including tuition fees, travel costs, and living expenses, ensuring that students can focus on their studies without financial worries.
The recipients of this year’s Erasmus Mundus Scholarship come from leading higher education institutions across India. They will be studying at a variety of prestigious European universities, gaining exposure to different educational systems and cultures. The EU member states where students will begin their studies include France (31), Portugal (19), Belgium (17), Italy (15), Spain (14), Germany (9), Finland (8), the Czech Republic (5), Sweden (4), Latvia (3), the Netherlands (2), Poland (2), Austria (2), Greece (1), and Hungary (1). Additionally, some students will start their studies in countries associated with Erasmus+: Serbia (1), Israel (2), Turkey (2), and the United Kingdom (8).
The presence of over 80,000 Indian students currently studying in Europe highlights the growing appreciation of Europe’s rich cultural heritage, diverse academic offerings, and unparalleled opportunities for personal and professional growth. The competitive nature of Indian students and the high academic standards in Indian institutions have contributed to India’s status as the top recipient of Erasmus+ scholarships since the programme’s inception.
