Indians Dominate Foreign Student Population in Uzbekistan

Date:

The Republic of Uzbekistan’s Statistics Agency has reported that the majority of international students enrolled in the nation’s higher education institutions are Indian. There were 5,733 Indian students studying in Uzbekistan as of the 2023–2024 academic year. This figure is higher than that of other nations, Turkmenistan comes in second with 904 students, followed by Pakistan with 1,358 students.

The study also emphasizes how Uzbekistan is becoming a more well-liked foreign student destination. Tajikistan (285), Kyrgyz Republic (285), Kazakhstan (537), and the Russian Federation (750) are among the other nations having substantial student populations in Uzbekistan. It’s interesting to note that Indians also make up the majority of international students in the US and the UK. With 3.31 lakh students enrolled for the 2023–2024 academic year, Indian students comprise the largest group of international students in the United States, according to the most recent Open Doors 2024 report. In a similar manner, there has been a rise in Indian students in the UK.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, 4,100 Indian students were studying in Uzbekistan as of January 1. As more Indian students learn about the opportunities in Uzbekistan, this number is anticipated to increase. With an emphasis on offering top-notch education at reasonable costs, the Uzbek government has been aggressively marketing the nation as a destination for overseas students. The universities in the nation provide a range of programs, including medicine, engineering and business, which are attracting students from around the world.

Uzbekistan is gaining popularity as a study abroad destination due to its expanding economy and expedient location. The growing number of Indian students in Uzbekistan indicates that the nation is becoming a significant force in the global education sector.
