African Students Look Beyond Traditional Study Destinations

Date:

In a notable change, African students are progressively choosing study locations outside the conventional “big four” nations – the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia. Instead, they are gathering in institutions across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, attracted by low fees, high visa approval rates, and enhanced job opportunities.

A source states that tuition costs in developing locations are considerably lower, with certain universities setting fees as low as $5,000 annually. The cost of living is also quite affordable, making these locations appealing for students from moderate and low-income nations.

They also mentioned that his firm has achieved a 100% success rate for visa issuance in numerous new locations, a major benefit for African students who frequently encounter rejection rates as high as 70% in conventional destinations.

The change is partly motivated by alterations in immigration policies in the “big four” nations, such as diminished post-study work entitlements and stricter visa rules. In reaction, education agents and consultants are advocating for alternative locations, including Germany, France, Ireland, Türkiye, Cyprus, Hungary, Georgia, Poland and Malta.

This trend is evident in the enrollment figures, as Malaysia accommodates 3,600 African students in 2023, while Türkiye takes in 61,000 African students, marking a threefold rise from 2019. Northern Cyprus is a sought-after location, with 17,400 Nigerian students registered in 2022.

With African students seeking alternatives to conventional destinations, education agents, consultants, and universities are evolving to cater to their demands. Thanks to low costs, increased visa approval rates, and enhanced job opportunities, new destinations are poised to become increasingly influential in the worldwide education sector.
