College Board Transitions SAT, AP Exams to Digital Format

Date:

In a major development, the College Board has revealed the shift of SAT and AP exams to digital formats, beginning in May 2025. The transition seeks to offer students a contemporary, adaptable testing experience by utilizing the Bluebook platform currently employed for SAT exams.

The digital format will take the place of conventional paper exams for most subjects, with 12 assessments, such as AP Biology and AP Chemistry, using a hybrid model that mixes digital multiple-choice items with paper free-response parts.

Students will use personal or school-issued devices, such as laptops, tablets, or Chromebooks, to complete the digital AP Exams. Test centers will offer strong technical assistance to guarantee a smooth testing experience.

To ensure an easy transition, the College Board will provide preparatory materials, such as test previews, practice tests, and video guides. These resources will help students get comfortable with the Bluebook platform and gain confidence ahead of exam day.

The digital format will be accessible at 35 AP test locations across the country, guaranteeing broad availability. Furthermore, Manav Rachna University has teamed up with Universal AI University to recognize AP credit scores, offering students a route to educational progression.

The College Board has published the SAT exam timetable for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026, with testing beginning on August 23 and ending on June 6, 2026. Students may check the official website of the College Board for comprehensive details regarding dates and registration deadlines.

The shift to digital formats represents an important milestone in the College Board’s aim to modernize and enhance the testing experience for students. Students can effectively manage the online format and reach their educational objectives, by providing study materials and ensuring broad access to testing locations.
