Coventry University has received the approval to establish its campus in GIFT City, Gujarat, marking a huge milestone in the institution’s expansion plans in India. This development makes Coventry University the first English institution to be granted a license to operate a campus in the region.
The university announced its ambition to open the campus in December, launching an Indian hub in New Delhi to support admissions, recruitment, and partnerships. The £1 billion expenditure on the campus was approved at the 13th UK-India Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD) at the London Stock Exchange on April 9.
“We are delighted that approval has been given to commence the set-up process for Coventry University GIFT City,” said John Latham CBE, Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University and Group. “We know that many students will benefit from the high-quality education we can offer over the years to come.”
The new campus will offer postgraduate programs such as International Business Management and Business and Finance, with plans to add more courses in the near future. The campus is set to open its doors this month, providing students with access to top-class education and research opportunities.
The development comes amid rising competition among international universities in the region, with other UK institutions, including the University of Surrey and Queen’s University Belfast, also announcing plans to establish campuses in GIFT City.
Alison Barrett, Director of India at the British Council, emphasized the shared commitment to internationalizing education, as highlighted in the National Education Policy 2020. “Thousands of students will benefit from the high-quality education that the university can offer in the years to come,” she said.
GIFT City, a business district in Gujarat, offers a unique opportunity for international institutions to establish a presence in India. Coventry University’s campus is expected to contribute to the region’s growing reputation as a hub for education and innovation.
The university’s expansion into India aligns with the country’s growing demand for high-quality education and research opportunities. With its strong reputation for academic excellence and research, Coventry University is well-positioned to make a major impact in the Indian education sector.
As the campus prepares to open its doors, students can look forward to accessing world-class education and research opportunities. The development is expected to tighten ties between the UK and India, promoting collaboration and exchange in education and research.
The institution’s presence in India is expected to benefit not only students but also the local community, contributing to the region’s economic and social development. With its strong reputation and commitment to academic excellence, Coventry University’s campus in GIFT City is poised to make a major impact in the Indian education sector.
