The employment opportunities after graduation continue to make Australia an attractive destination, even after the cut in post-study work visas for international students. According to the new survey, 63 percent of the international students have chosen to study in Australia. The study reveals that international students believe that the country offers better career prospects after graduation.

In a survey, the responses of 1,058 international students were considered, including current, former, and prospective students. The international students who participated in the survey were from the top countries sending students to study in Australia. Following are the source countries sending international students to Australia:

  • Columbia
  • China
  • India
  • Philippines

More than half of the students from India, Columbia, and the Philippines believed that better employment opportunities were available in Australia when compared with their home countries. On the other hand, 34 percent of students from China believed the same.

Moreover, 47 percent of the students have considered studying in Australia because of its good reputation for studying. However, 29 percent of the students have chosen to study in the country because they have plans to live there permanently. Around 41 percent of the prospective students have revealed that they were not aware of the new migration policy introduced in December 2023.

Apart from that, 27 percent of the students said that they would not continue to study in Australia due to the introduced changes. The new survey reveals that 27 percent of the students are already looking to study elsewhere. On the other hand, 14 percent of the students hold the thought of switching to another study abroad destination, as they do not wish to study in Australia.

Previously, Australia granted post-study work rights to international students enrolled in certain programmes, allowing them to stay and work in the country for four years. This has been reduced by two years.
