Enhancing Academic Partnerships: Sciences Po Director Visits India

Date:

In a recent interview, Luis Vassy, Director of Sciences Po in Paris, shared his thoughts on enhancing academic partnerships between the esteemed French university and Indian institutions.

Vassy, who assumed the role of Director in October of the previous year, is currently visiting India for two days, marking his first overseas trip since taking over. He conveyed his enthusiasm for enhancing Sciences Po’s collaborations with Indian universities, building upon current partnerships with 14 institutions in the nation.

“We aim to strengthen our connections with Indian institutions, especially in fields such as governance, finance, law, and urban studies,” Vassy stated. “We’re keen on examining chances for collaborative programs that integrate engineering education with social sciences.”

Sciences Po has initiated a dual master’s program with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai, and Vassy mentioned that additional initiatives are forthcoming.

The French university has experienced a notable surge in international applications, with a 30% increase in enrollments of foreign students this year. Vassy linked this increase to Sciences Po’s esteemed reputation for academic quality and the evolving dynamics of global higher education.

“We’re not facing visa problems for our Indian students, unlike various other nations,” Vassy remarked. “France is dedicated to embracing international students, and we take pride in providing a distinctive combination of academic excellence and cultural experience.”

Vassy also spoke on the topic of student demonstrations on campus, highlighting the significance of free speech while ensuring a structure that honors the rights of every student.

As Sciences Po aims to broaden its international presence, Vassy recognized that establishing a campus in India is a consideration, though it isn’t a current priority.

“At this time, we are concentrating on strengthening our partnerships with Indian institutions and enhancing mobility and collaboration among our students and faculty,” Vassy stated.

With its profound history, academic distinction, and dedication to global engagement, Sciences Po is set to considerably influence the future of higher education in India and elsewhere.
