The annual visa quota for skilled Indian workers has been significantly increased by Germany, from 20,000 to 90,000. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made this announcement on October 25 at the 18th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business 2024. The goal of the action is to improve India-German commercial relations.
With a 23,000 increase in Indian workers in Germany last year, Indians are now the largest group of foreign students at German institutions, according to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Germany, which is experiencing a labor crisis in critical fields like information technology, engineering, and healthcare, is welcoming this inflow of talent.
Germany is simplifying its visa processes through digitization, expedited processing, and user-friendly initiatives in order to accommodate the increased visa quota. Chancellor Scholz stressed that Germany wants to decrease irregular migration and that this higher quota will only help skilled professionals.
PM Modi announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Dresden University and IIT Chennai in addition to the increase in the visa quota. Students will be able to pursue a Dual Degree program thanks to this agreement, which will promote interpersonal relationships through practical education and skill development. This discovery represents a major advancement in fortifying Indo-German connections and generating prospects for reciprocal advancement. Germany hopes to strengthen its workforce and encourage cooperation across industries by luring highly trained workers.
