UK Immigration Update: BRP Cards to be Replaced by eVisas from January 2025

Date:

The British government has declared that, starting in January 2025, electronic visas, or e-Visas, will replace Biometric Residence Permits (BRP) cards in an important overhaul of the country’s immigration system. International students who intend to study in the UK, particularly those from India, would be impacted by this move.
International students will no longer be able to enter the UK using their BRP cards as of January 2025. Instead, individuals will have to prove their immigration status using their e-Visa, which will have the same function as the BRP card. Instead of being physical, the e-Visa will be digital and available via the UKVI account.

International students should have already created a UKVI account if they want to travel abroad for the Christmas break. In order to access and manage their e-Visa, this account is essential. Students can monitor visa applications, verify their visa status, and get vital information about their immigration status using their UKVI account.

Students should make sure they can access their e-Visa information by logging into their UKVI account before departing the country. Students must confirm that their visa status is genuine and active. It is best to resolve any visa-related problems or inconsistencies well in advance of departure.

Before leaving for the airport, students must generate a share code using their UKVI account to guarantee a seamless return to the UK. Before letting the student board the trip back to the UK, airline employees could seek to confirm their immigration status. By using the sharing code, UK border officers will be able to swiftly authenticate the student’s eligibility to enter the country and act as confirmation of their status.

Usually, the sharing code is good for ninety days. Students should make sure they can access it on their phone or in print. The airline crew may refuse boarding or request more proof if the sharing code is not given.

To sum up, foreign students should be informed about the impending changes to the UK’s immigration laws and take the appropriate precautions to guarantee a seamless transition. Students may avoid any potential problems and have a hassle-free return to the UK by creating a sharing code, confirming their visa status, and setting up their UKVI account.
