According to the new reports, Australia permits applicants to migrate to the country through the education pathway. The media reports further state that the genuine temporary entrant requirement, which was used by authorities to determine whether a student is coming to the country to gain a quality education or not, can be changed.
Home Affairs has already stated that GTE is not intended to exclude students who apply for permanent residency after graduating from Australian institutions. The new reforms will enable students to express their intention of migrating to the country in their visa applications.
However, even the reports claim that the Albanese government is planning to switch from the genuine temporary entrant to the requirement of the genuine student test. Though there is no confirmation yet. There are instances where students who indicate interest in working as a part-time worker or wish to have post-study rights almost become criminals in the books of authorities.
The authorities were earlier asked to remove the dual intent allowance. As per this dual intent, students have to express their interest in staying in the country after the completion of their degree. It is anticipated that this change can place Australia at the top of the charts as the most preferred study abroad destination. As per Group of Eight chief executive Vicki Thomson, enabling students to express their intention to migrate to Australia will be helpful as it will help to fill critical workforce shortages. However, there are also concerns relating to the high number of fake study visa submissions.
