Rishi Sunak’s election call suggests he believed the worst was yet to come:

Date:

Recently, the Prime Minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak, stated in the pouring rain that he had requested King to dissolution the parliament. The King, considering Sunak’s request, has granted this request, and the UK is going to have a general election on the 4th of July. This surprising move is a huge electoral gamble, as the Labour Party is already up 20 points in the poll.

The big number in the polls is representative of the lowering of the of the inflation rate by 2.3% in April. According to Sunak, the coming down of inflation is proof that the plans and priorities are working. Moreover, he stated, “The question now is: how and who do you trust to turn that foundation into a secure future for you, your family, and our country?”

While pitching the voters, he put the economy and global security threats at the center. As per him, economic stability is the bedrock of the future, and he indirectly accused Labour of having no plans for that. In a pitch to voters, Sunak continuously targets the opposition party and reveals how his party can be of benefit to not only the general public but international students as well.

According to the Prime Minister, Labour has significantly avoided multiple things that are to be taken into consideration. Moreover, he believes that the worst is yet to come. When party fortunes are so low, no prime minister has ever called an early election. However, those polls don’t seem to be getting any closer, and his own ratings—some of the lowest on record—keep getting worse.

Sunak has managed to align his announcement with two positive developments: the rate of inflation has dropped to its lowest point in over three years, and the number of applications for visas on important routes has decreased by 25% since the beginning of 2024.
