Wolverhampton University intends to attract more international students and increase revenue by £100 million

Date:

The University of Wolverhampton, a public university in England, plans to attract a large number of international students. By 2029, they plan to recruit over 5000 international students, as they pay higher fees than domestic students. This vision of recruiting more international students satisfies their aim of increasing their revenue by £100 million in the coming five years.

According to the reports, the university revealed its plan during a Wolverhampton Business Forum meeting where the future of the city centre was discussed. An idea that was discussed during the meeting was the establishment of a student village that would be beneficial for the university’s growth.

The new vice chancellor of the university, Ebrahim Adia, said that international students have the biggest hand in Wolverhampton’s transformation. To offer something special and attract a large number of international students, there is a need to work with partners, as he stressed.

Adia has recently raised his concerns about the stagnant tuition fees for years, which have been a financial burden on the university. Moreover, the university is constantly increasing efforts to increase international students to remain financially stable. He further proposed to the government that it introduce a new Social Mobility Premium paid to universities, proportional to the number of students who are the first in their families to attend university.

The university has been ranked top in the United Kingdom for teaching students who are the first in their families to go to the college. Moreover, a few days ago, the university received £722,578 from the Office for Students (OfS) to support the growth of new and current degree apprenticeships. Of this amount, £40 million (€46 million) was made available through a competitive bidding process for the academic years 2023/24 and 2024/25.
