Will India-UK launch the Young Professional Scheme in February?

The Young Professional Scheme concerning India and the UK will be launched on 28 February 2023. This scheme is applicable to Indian nationals within the age group of 18- 30 staying in the UK to live and work in Britain for up to two years. After the 15th India-UK Foreign Office Consultation (FOA) a statement was released concentrating on the launch date of the scheme. Under this scheme, there is no need for a job or any sponsor to apply for a UK visa.

The letters relating to the scheme were formalized on 9 January 2023, on the occasion of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. As per the scheme, 3000 degree-holding Indian nationals annually within the age group 18 – 30 years will be given a chance to come to the UK to live and work. Indian individuals should have 2500 EUR to sustain themselves in the UK. The program is also applicable to Britishers too, as they can come to India to live and work for up to two years.

External Affairs Minister of India, S. Jaishankar announced on Twitter the highlights of his discussion with Barton. He mentioned the progress made by the countries in expanding bilateral relationships. As per the statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India and the UK share a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in view of Roadmap 2030 “Future Relations”. Both countries also shared ideas on the regional and global issue of collaborative interest including Ukraine, Afghanistan, and the United Nations. The UK and India will share and maintain regular exchanges at different levels.
